In the mid to late sixties Group 7 or CanAm cars were the most powerful and fearsome cars on the planet, even faster than the F1 cars of the day. Even in New Zealand competitors and car builders got in on the act.
In NZ most of these cars were built up locally, but there was also Trans Tasman rivalry. Garrie Cooper's Elfin factory in Adelaide manufactured this Elfin 400 and it was more than a match for most of its competitors on both sides of the Tasman. Andy Buchanan proved the point by racing this one very successfully.
